LIME TREE POLLEN ALLERGY


Key Allergens

Lime trees are in the Malvaceae family of plants. Other plants in this family include okra, durian fruit and cocoa. They are also sometimes called Linden trees. They are not the same as lime fruit trees.

Lime trees in the UK are mostly ornamental, but the pollen can cause allergic rhinitis symptoms. It is present in the UK over Summer, peaking in June.






Associated Syndromes

An allergy to lime tree pollen is strongly associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hayfever).

A lime tree pollen allergy is also linked to asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis and atopic dermatitis.


Cross Reactivity

There are currently no defined allergens for lime tree pollen, so no known cross reactivity.
